BECOME A VOLUNTEER

The Haunted Fort invites you and your friends to be part of the biggest Halloween event of the year.
This elusive group of Halloween lovers are key to the success of the Haunted Fort, they live to hear the screams of their victims that are venturing through the dark passages of Fort Abraham Lincoln. Even if you don’t want to scare, we have a team that would love to have you be part of their team. We have roles in our Haunted Houses, Ticket Booth, Makeup and Costumes and Concessions.

Join us for our 23rd-anniversary Haunted Fort event, North Dakota's largest haunted attraction! Whether you're a Halloween enthusiast or just looking for a spooky good time, we welcome you to be a part of the legendary fear event at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. Volunteers are the heart of Haunted Fort, where we delight in terrifying visitors and creating memorable Halloween experiences.

We have a diverse range of roles, from scaring in our haunted houses to handling ticket sales, makeup, costumes, and concessions. Your dedication ensures the success of Haunted Fort, where screams echo through the dark passages of Fort Abraham Lincoln. Join us for a spine-tingling adventure and prepare to have a blast throughout October!

WHAT TO EXPECT

As part of this crazy team, you are required to:

  1. Have fun, make friends, think outside the box, and create a legendary experience

  2. Arrive on time for the Check-in, assignments, and information.

    1. Check-in for volunteers starts at 5:30pm each evening.

    2. At check-in you will be assign to your work center, whether that be a Haunted House, or visitor services.

    3. You will meet with you work center team leader and they will direct and help you to get ready for the evening.

    4. Volunteer General Information will be presented to the group between 6:45pm & 7:00pm

  3. Obey, be safe, and Listen to our trained Haunted Fort staff.

    1. It is very important that you respect and listen to the trained Haunted Fort team of staff and leaders that will be directing you each evening. They are responsible for the event experience and also the safety of you and the visitors attending the Haunted Fort

    2. You must adhere to all park rules and regulations and obey all park staff safety requirements.

  4. When arriving at the state park notify the park staff at the entrance gate that you are volunteering for the event. Park in the far west of the paved parking lot.

  5. Check-out at the end of each night.​

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW?

  1. Scare Team volunteers may be placed in dark areas with lots of light effects and fog machines.  Please let us know if you have concerns or health issues regarding this type of placement.

  2. Dress for scaring success

    1. Wear comfortable shoes (NO sandals or open toe or heal shoes allowed) Dress according to the weather. If temps are going to be near or below freezing be prepared with warm clothing, hats, and gloves etc. Two of our Haunted House, Ticket Areas, and Concessions are not heated

  3. If you are scaring, bring your own mask, do your make-up, costume, or dress in all black/dark clothing for the event. Some costume, and make-up services will be provided for core areas

    1. Themes for the Haunted Houses, are Works of Edgar Allen Poe, Carnival, Dark Asylum

  4. Please wear comfortable shoes.  No sandals or open toe or open heal shoes allowed. –

  5. Also recommend you bring a water bottle to stay hydrated in the Haunted Houses

  6. Face Masks are optional but completely acceptable for those that chose to wear them

  7. Volunteers shifts end between 11:30pm and Midnight each evening.​

VOLUNTEER WAIVER

All volunteers must complete the volunteer waiver to be able to participate in Haunted Fort. Please complete one of either the digital form or print and sign the physical version. If you decide to use the physical copy, please bring it to the Haunted Fort on your volunteer day or mail to 411 West Main St, Mandan, ND 58554
